Be there this Friday, October 5th, to witness the first ever outdoor 3D video mapping event in Western New York!
A community event celebrating the Albright-Knox Art Gallery’s 150th anniversary, watch as the iconic 1905 building is brought to life with historic imagery, culled from the Gallery’s digital media collection, archival photos and abstract animation. This event is free, and open to the public. Festivities will begin at 6:30 pm. Two viewings of the projection will be presented at 7:30 and 8:30 pm. Boat dancers on Hoyt Lake, a live DJ and refreshments from Buffalo food trucks will add to the entertainment.
Three-dimensional video projection mapping makes large buildings come alive with color, depth, and motion. Images are manipulated to fit seamlessly onto a building’s architecture, creating the illusion of three dimensions without the need for 3D glasses. Major video projection mapping projects have been presented at the Vimeo Festival and Awards, on London’s Millbank Tower as part of a deadmau5 concert, at Frank Lloyd Wright’s masterpiece Fallingwater, around Anish Kapoor’s Cloud Gate at Millennium Park in Chicago, and even at the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show in 2012.
